Packers quarterback Jordan Love is worried about injury and must sit out Thursday’s practice

Another day, another injury scare for the Green Bay Packers in training camp. Just a day after quarterback Christian Watson went down demanding and feared a leg injury that would end Wednesday’s practice, quarterback Jordan Love had his own injury scare that would end Thursday’s game.

Watson appeared to be fine — in fact, he practiced again on Thursday. Love also appears to be fine.

According to Matt Schneidman of The AthleticLove was “walking gingerly” during an evaluation by head coach Bryan Engel after he was taken to the ground during an 11-on-11 period to end Thursday’s practice. The affected area was Love’s left leg or knee. On the sidelines, Schneidman made it clear he considered it a “minor” issue.

Rob Demovsky of ESPN said Love was “stretching” his left leg after the incident.

Shortly afterwards, Demovsky captured Love running off the pitch without any problems after training.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur plans to play Love — who recently signed a record-breaking $220 million contract extension — during the preseason. Barring an injury that ends Thursday’s practice, Love will be expected to start and play against the Cleveland Browns in the preseason opener on Saturday afternoon.

For safety reasons, quarterbacks wear red uniforms during training camp practices to show that they should not be hit.

Like many teams, the Packers can’t afford to have their quarterback injured. Love is one of the NFL’s teenage, rising quarterbacks and a huge reason the Packers are seen as a sizzling Super Bowl contender in 2024. His backups include Sean Clifford, a fifth-round pick in 2023 who has tried to sit out the regular season earlier in his career, and Michael Pratt, a seventh-round pick in 2024.
