Packers RB Josh Jacobs, LB Edgerrin Cooper to miss Thursday’s practice with novel injuries

The Green Bay Packers are giving several veterans a day off Thursday in the ninth practice of training camp, but Matt LaFleur’s team has a couple of additions to the injury report. Running back Josh Jacobs and linebacker Edgerrin Cooper will miss Thursday with novel injuries.

Jacobs, the team’s huge addition at quarterback, is sidelined with a groin injury, and Cooper, a second-round draft pick, has a hip injury.

Cooper left practice Wednesday and did not return. It is unclear when Jacobs was injured, and the severity of the injury is unknown at this time.

There is a possibility that Jacobs and Cooper will not be present for Saturday’s Family Night practice at Lambeau Field.

Expect AJ Dillon, MarShawn Lloyd and Emanuel Wilson to see more of a first-team presence on offense with Jacobs out. Cooper was a first-team starter early in camp, but he’s mostly been a second-team defensive end behind Quay Walker, Isaiah McDuffie and Eric Wilson at linebacker.

Rookie Don Callis, who signed on Tuesday, will also miss Thursday with a novel hamstring injury.

Offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins, tackles Preston Smith and Rashan Gary, defensive lineman Kenny Clark and middle blocker Tyler Davis are all taking veteran rest days.

Among those injured on Thursday were cornerback Carrington Valentine (hamstring) and tight end Tucker Kraft (PUP, pec). Center Josh Myers will again miss the game due to a personal issue.
