Green Bay Packers linebacker Josh Jacobs will play on Sunday against the Chicago Bears, but he doesn’t expect to face a bulky workload in the season finale.
Coach Matt LaFleur wants to play all of his fit players, but it’s unclear whether starters like Jacobs will play the entire game. The Packers have a guaranteed spot in the playoffs, and Sunday’s result will only determine whether Green Bay finishes in 6th or 7th place.
Asked if he could get about 30 carries against the Bears, Jacobs tried to be realistic about the situation.
“Realistically, I don’t see them doing that. Just be honest, be realistic. “I don’t think I took that many carries in this game,” Jacobs said Thursday. “I want to play, I’m playing, but I just don’t see myself taking 30 carries, I just don’t see it.”
Jacobs, who was named to his third Pro Bowl on Thursday, already has 295 carries, the second most in a season of his career. The Packers need him fit and fresh for the first round of the postseason, which begins next weekend.
Jacobs, who is on the wrist injury report following last week’s loss in Minnesota, wants to play in the finals with his fit teammates. After 16 games, his health and energy are fine.
“If I was struggling with something right now, it would be the decision: do I want to play or not? What I bring to this team – energy, mood – is essential for the guys to see me there. If Jordan (Love) and all the other guys are playing, I have to be there too.
Jacobs ranks fourth in the NFL in carries (295), fifth in rushing yards (1,285) and ranks second in rushing touchdowns (14), heading into the season finale.
