Packers sections hope to advance after ‘isolated incident’ with Romeo Doubs

Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur said he spoke with receiver Romeo Doubs on Monday and is hopeful his team can now move forward after what he described as an “isolated incident” in which Doubs was suspended last week.

LaFleur called the meeting with his third-year receiver “productive.” He expects Doubs – who missed Thursday and Friday practices last week before the team suspended him on Saturday – to return to the team on Wednesday.

“What’s done is done. We are moving forward. I expect that as a team we will continue to move in this direction,” LaFleur said Monday.

LaFleur, in a roundabout way, confirmed that Doubs’ problem was a lack of individual opportunities in the Packers offense.

“Everyone has their own goals, aspirations and desires, but we just have to stick to what is best for our team. Our job is to win football games,” LaFleur said. “I would like everyone to go out on the pitch and hit every number they want to hit, but for me and creating this team, what matters most is winning.”

Doubs led Packers receivers in snaps played in four games, but he caught only 12 passes on 20 targets and had no touchdowns. He caught eight touchdown passes as a sophomore in 2023 and was outstanding in the postseason, leading the team with 10 catches and 234 receiving yards.

LaFleur acknowledged that the Packers’ offensive depth could cause distribution issues, but said he didn’t believe something like that would happen to Doubs again.

“It hasn’t happened to him before and I don’t expect it to happen again,” LaFleur said.

Retreating after this incident requires a renewed commitment from everyone to victory.

“We’re going to focus on the team and continue to focus on winning and doing our best to put everyone in a good position to win games,” LaFleur said.

The Packers have Tuesday off. Wednesday is the first practice of the week and the beginning of the Arizona Cardinals’ preparations for Week 6.
