Packers sections release CB Robert Rochell after win over Rams

After being named to the 53-man roster on Saturday and playing in Sunday’s victory over the Los Angeles Rams, linebacker Robert Rochell was released from the Green Bay Packers on Monday.

This move is more procedural than performance-based.

Rochell was signed from the practice squad after the Packers suspended receiver Romeo Doubs for conduct detrimental to the team. Now, with Doubs having to be reinstated to the lively roster earlier this week, a corresponding roster move was necessary, and one of those was the release of Rochell.

Coach Matt LaFleur said he expects to talk to Doubs on Monday and the Packers expect him to return to the team this week.

Rochell played 11 snaps on special teams against the Rams. He left the field briefly after the sting, but returned early in the second half.

Before Sunday, Rochell outscored the practice squad twice on game day. He played 12 special teams snaps against the Tennessee Titans and 11 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Unless he is claimed off waivers, which is unlikely, Rochell should return to the Packers’ practice squad. He could return on Wednesday.
