Packers sign former Lions DE Zach Morton

Green Bay Packers are reportedly signing former Detroit Lions defensive lineman Zach Morton. Adam Schefter from ESPN.

Morton, 25, went undrafted out of Akron in 2023. He signed with the Lions after the draft and was released by the team on Aug. 5 before playing in any preseason games. Morton spent time with the San Antonio Brahmas of the UFL in 2024. He recorded three tackles and half a sack.

Morton has 4.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and four interceptions in 2022. He has one sack, an interception for a touchdown and two blocked kicks in 2021. Morton, a Detroit native, transferred to Akron after four seasons at Syracuse.

Morton’s athletic profile is impressive. At nearly 6-foot-5 and 261 pounds, Morton has a 35.5-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot broad jump, a 1.59-second 10-yard dash, and a 7.07-second three-cone time. His relative athletic score is 9.32 out of 10 as a defensive end.

Injuries likely prompted the signing in Green Bay. Defensive ends Kingsley Enagbare, Keshawn Banks and Deslin Alexandre are all dealing with various injuries at this point in training camp.

The Packers had an open roster spot after releasing quarterback Jacob Eason on Monday. Expect Morton to be officially signed and possibly available to practice on Wednesday.
