Packers TE Tucker Kraft stands out in joint workout with Ravens

Green Bay Packers guard Tucker Kraft was productive in the pass-catching department during an impressive performance for the No. 1 offense during Thursday’s joint practice with the Baltimore Ravens.

According to Mike Spofford from Packers.comKraft — who is back to 100 percent after recovering from offseason pectoral surgery — caught at least five passes during 11-on-11 periods against the Ravens defense.

“If there was anyone who stood out, it was Tucker Kraft, the second-year tight end,” Spofford said. “I had him on five receptions today against the Ravens defense. There were some coverages, some deep crossings over the middle. No. 85 was a big presence on the field for Jordan Love today.”

Kraft caught one pass on a planned roll and rushed for massive yards. On one play in the red zone, Kraft caught a screen and followed the blockers for a score. On multiple dropbacks, he caught a pass from Love on a breakaway route downfield, including one on a phony play.

The third-round pick last year caught the eye at practice on Thursday and has been impressive at center.

“Tucker looks great,” Love said. “We’ve definitely felt his presence since he came back. I think he’s jumped right in. I think he’s got some fresh form now after missing a little bit, but he looks great out there. It’s very visible on the field and it’s great to have him back.”

Kraft appears to be picking up where he left off, finishing off his promising rookie season. Over the last nine games of 2023, Kraft has caught 29 passes for 350 yards and two touchdowns. He added five catches and a score in the postseason. Overall, Kraft finished the season with the third-most catches (31) and second-most receiving yards (355) among rookie tight ends in Packers history.

The only obstacle to Kraft having a true breakout season in 2024 is the quality of weapons around him. Luke Musgrave will get opportunities and targets at tight end, the Packers believe they have four starting-caliber wide receivers and Josh Jacobs will likely be the workhorse at running back.

There are only so many snaps and targets to be had. But Thursday’s practice showed that Kraft can still be a factor for Love and the Packers’ passing game in 2024. Like Love, the second-year tight end appears ready for Week 1.
