Packers Wire Sections Personnel Predictions: Week 5 vs. Rams

The Green Bay Packers will try to bounce back from last week’s home loss to the Minnesota Vikings when Matt LaFleur’s team travels to Los Angeles to face the 1-3 Rams on Sunday.

The Packers are 2-2 and have had a week full of unexpected adversity. Romeo Doubs has been suspended for conduct detrimental to the team and nine other players have playing status on the final injury report.

Can the Packers overcome the distraction and get the job done on the road on Sunday at SoFi Stadium?

Here’s how the Packers Wire staff thinks the Week 5 clash with the Rams will play out:

Zach Kruse: Packers 30, Rams 20 (0-4)

My weekly prediction is a 28-0 loss in the first half. Like the Packers last week, I desperately need a break to get back on track. Can the Rams provide something resembling a muffed punt inside the 10-yard line? In many ways, the Rams look like the perfect opponent — Sean McVay’s team is struggling to protect the passer, the team’s two best receivers are out, and the Rams are 31st in scoring defense thanks to a faint run defense and a shaky secondary. Can the Packers capitalize on this? Love’s passing game looks ready to explode, even if there are a few question marks at receiver at the end of the week, and you can bet the pass rush will be looking to rebound after a leisurely start. Add to that the environment at SoFi Stadium, which is mostly Packers fans, and Matt LaFleur’s team should be victorious. The only caveat is the potential distraction from Romeo Doubs’ suspension. The Packers can’t let what happens there translate into Sunday’s performance.

Brandon Carwile: Packers 28, Rams 20 (2-2)

Reasoning coming soon!

Brennen Rupp: Packers 30, Rams 13 (3-1)

Reasoning coming soon!

Greg Williams: Packers 34, Rams 17 (2-2)

The Packers will face each other this week in what appears to be a key game for both teams. Green Bay showed flashes of mighty defensive play, holding Jordan Love in the second half of last week’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings, leading the league with 12 turnovers and gaining momentum on offense. The key matchup to watch will be the Packers’ defensive tackle against the Rams. The Rams have given up 13 sacks this season, which ranks 8th, while the Packers have forced 13 sacks, which also ranks 8th. The Rams will still be without Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacui, so the Packers secondary will have less to worry about in the passing game and more to worry about with Kyren Williams in the running game. If the Packers can provide more consistency on offense, their balanced attack could control the tempo of the game. The Rams’ defense, ranking near the bottom in several key metrics, will need a mighty performance to fend off Green Bay’s offense. Given the Packers’ defensive play and the Rams’ offensive inconsistency, the advantage goes to Green Bay.

Writer Forecast Result Record
Zach Kruse Win 30-20 0-4
Brandon Carwile Win 28-20 2-2
Burn Rupp Win 30-13 3-1
Greg Williams Win 34-17 2-2
