The Green Bay Packers lost all five games against the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions during the regular season, but they will have a better chance at a substantial win when Matt LaFleur’s team travels to Philadelphia to face the Eagles, who finished with 14 -3. NFC wild card round on Sunday.
Any magical road to the Super Bowl must start this weekend at Lincoln Financial Field.
Can the Packers avenge their Week 1 loss in Brazil and knock off the second-seeded Eagles to open the postseason, or will Green Bay end the season on a three-game losing streak?
Here’s how the NFC Wild Card Round matchup with the Eagles will play out, according to Packers Wire staff:
Zach Kruse: Eagles 24, Packers 23 (9-8)
The Packers can win this football game. They have the ingredients – a great quarterback, a tackle-breaking running back, a inventive and experienced quarterback, and a turnover-inducing defense – to go to Philadelphia and beat the Eagles. At their best, the Packers can beat anyone on the field. I simply lack confidence in their ability to play four quality quarters without the self-sabotage that has defined many of their biggest games and moments in 2024, especially on the road against one of the NFL’s best teams. The Eagles are as balanced as any team in football and rarely beat themselves. Much like they did in Dallas in January, the Packers will need to consistently keep the ball, play without turnovers, get clutch passes from Jordan Love and get the ball away from Jalen Hurts a few times to win. The Eagles are great, but this game is as much about the Packers’ ability to get out of their own way as it is about the Eagles’ talent. Ultimately, I won’t be surprised if one more self-made mistake results in the loss of Sunday’s season, which could have been a standout for a teenage and impressive Packers team.
Brandon Carwile: Packers 31, Eagles 28 (12-5)
When the Packers and Eagles faced off in Brazil in Week 1, many thought it was a potential playoff matchup. Well, here we are. Green Bay lost this game 34-29, but they really beat themselves more than anything else. That doesn’t mean Philadelphia isn’t a talented team. They have one of the most unsafe offenses in the league and a perfectly tuned defense, coached by Vic Fangio. Not many people are giving Green Bay much of a chance in this one, and that’s fine. Few expected them to upset the second-seeded Dallas Cowboys last year at Jerry’s World. I think the Packers will pull off another upset and shock the NFL world after a high-scoring shootout during Wild Card weekend.
Brennen Rupp: Eagles 35, Packers 17 (14-3)
Last year, the Packers went into Jerry’s World and did what they wanted, when they wanted against the Dallas Cowboys during Wild Card Weekend. Will they be able to cause another blackout this week? This team was on its knees at the end of the season and there is not much hope that they will go to Philadelphia and beat a team with one of the best offensive and defensive lines in the league. If the Packers play error-free football, they will have a chance. I just think they’re going to have some tough sledding on the ground and I’m not sure if Jordan Love and an air attack that has struggled to stay in sync for quite some time will be able to withstand the onslaught. Will they be able to rediscover the motivation from last year’s playoffs? All the ingredients are there.
