Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur praised the work and progress made by receiver Romeo Doubs during his offseason training program.
LaFleur said the Packers challenged Doubs in several areas, and he responded in a large way.
“I think Rome had an exceptional spring. Really,” LaFleur said Wednesday. “It is visible in everyday work. He’s there in the morning, catching JUGS, and is one of the last to leave the building. He is very conscious of the work he puts in. And it shows. We challenged him on a few things that we thought he would do better on, really emphasizing the importance of gaining momentum, and he accepted it. Did you see that. He had a lot of great moments.”
Doubs caught eight touchdown passes and improved his yards per catch, success rate and yards per target in 2023. In two postseason games, Doubs caught a team-high 10 passes for a team-high 234 yards, good for a perfect finish. his sophomore season and was potentially a springboard for a bigger step in Year 3.
Combining great moments with the regularity of everyday life this spring is a recipe for real improvement for a third-year player who has seen a lot of time on the field during his first two seasons in the NFL.
“I don’t really remember a bad day he had there (during the offseason training program),” LaFleur said. “It’s definitely improving.”
Doubs didn’t want to say either good or bad, but he also believes he improved his game this offseason.
“I thought it was progressive,” Doubs said. “I could get better at it every day and I can’t wait for this summer and going to camp.”
Doubs is a 23-game starter who played nearly 1,400 regular-season snaps in his first two seasons. Could Jordan Love be the starting point guard in 2024?
Doubs said his plan was to “be a family man and train” during the five-week break between the end of the program and camp.
