Patrick Durkin: Bluegills rival any fish for flavor, they fight

Few would argue that the bluegill would be a more worthy state fish than the muskox, Wisconsin’s longtime holder of that title. After all, bluegills do not attach particular importance to where they live.
In old times, their probable range extended from the eastern United States to southeastern Canada and northeastern Mexico. Their range has expanded in recent centuries through intentional and unintentional transplants, spreading the species throughout the United States and northern Mexico.
