Roman Igwebuike, a 2027 linebacker from Illinois, attends Mount Carmel High School and recently received a scholarship from Wisconsin. Igwebuike attends the same school as current Badgers running back and former top recruit Darrion Dupree. The linebacker holds ten scholarship offers including offers from conference rivals Illinois, Minnesota, Purdue, and USC according to 247sports.

For the Wisconsin football staff, Igwebuike had been a player who was quietly being scouted, and received an offer during his first conversation with the staff. The linebacker spoke with position coach Tut Borland, a former Ohio State Buckeyes legend and someone who many consider to be a “football junkie” given his intense knowledge surrounding the game.

Igwebuike stated that he was “actually shocked” after receiving the offer and did not expect to hear the news. Despite it being the first conversation with Borland and the Wisconsin football staff, Igwebuike felt comfortable speaking with the coach and noted that he felt Borland was a “great dude” after initial conversations.

The talented also stated, “[Borland] sounds like he knows ball for real and playing for him is a real consideration.”

While the developing connection between the Wisconsin football staff and Igwebuike seems to be flourishing, the recruit broke down what a dream landing spot must have. Igwebuike stated, “I want the staff to not just have a relationship with me but my parents also and I’m looking for a team that is ready to use me to dominate on the field.” The linebacker also added that he is looking for a school where he could call the campus “home” as he aims to play out his entire eligibility.

What has Drawn the Wisconsin Badgers Football Staff Towards Roman Igwebuike?

The Wisconsin Badgers football staff is looking to build a team full of physical freaks after struggling with the physicality of top-level teams a season ago.

When talking about physical players in the 2027 defensive class, Igwebuike has become a household name amongst recruiters as of delayed. The linebacker stands in at 6-feet-3-inches, and roughly 220-pounds with incredible reach and length at his size. Igwebuike received eight scholarship offers in January and likely will continue to stack-up offers as the rest of his game develops.

The linebacker is a raw prospect overall, with some aspects of play that may need attention at the collegiate level, but the mental aspect and physical frame are certainly there. Igwebuike is a massive, sturdy defender with highlights including a one-handed sack on the quarterback while dragging the offensive lineman with him. The recruit also reads the field excellently, and has the size and closing ability to reach the football before the play is able to truly takeoff.

As any good linebacker should be, Igwebuike is a sure-tackler and rarely as players able to slip away from the linebacker once a hand is on them. Igwebuike is already a very knowledgable player with quick instincts, which will only continue to get better with plenty of time left before collegiate play.
