For many anglers, spring means one thing – crappie, especially shallow water slabs. In Minnesota, with most game fishing seasons now closed, anglers are focusing their efforts on chasing crappie, especially when they head into the shallows to spawn.
While popular opinion certainly leans towards the spawning time frame, I personally prefer the pre-spawn period.
