Report of commercial lake trout in Lake Michigan investigated

The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board (NRB) heard a report on lake trout in Lake Michigan at its Oct. 25 meeting. The report indicates that the fish population is increasing in some parts of the lake. However, it is too early to tell whether a commercial lake trout fishery will be possible.
During the 1950s, the lake trout population in Lake Michigan declined significantly, primarily due to the introduction of sea lamprey via the Saint Lawrence Seaway and overfishing.
