The Wisconsin Badgers enter the college football season with a 2-2 record and 0-1 in BIG10 Conference play. Wisconsin will face the Purdue Boilermakers this week, who recently fired offensive coordinator Graham Harrell.
Speaking of offensive coordinator, Phil Longo has faced backlash this season from Badgers fans as well as head coach Luke Fickell. The offense has yet to score 30 points this season and will need to explode at some point.
Wisconsin Badgers offensive coordinator Phil Longo is on the scorching seat
After the Purdue Boilermakers made an offensive coordinator change this week, CBS Sports Writer Tom Fornelli wrote about which BIG10 coaches could be fired next. One name he has on his list is Wisconsin Badgers offensive coordinator Phil Longo. Fornelli said:
“The firing of one offensive coordinator inspired this inspection, so it is only right that we include another coordinator. Not much went as expected after Wisconsin hired Luke Fickell. After going 7-6 last season, the Badgers are now 2-2 and haven’t been as competitive against USC as the final score of 38-21 might suggest.
Still, even after another mediocre season, it’s difficult to believe Fickell will go anywhere, but someone may have to fall on his sword. Longo seems a likely candidate.
Much like Harrell, it’s difficult to blame Longo solely for Wisconsin’s offensive problems. Of course, Tyler Van Dyke The injury is a factor, but the Badger offense didn’t perform well for him either. This was more about Jimmys and Joes than Xs and Wasps, but coaches are responsible for their squads, so Longo has to take some of the blame.
If the Badgers offense plays against the Purdue Boilermakers this weekend, there’s a chance head coach Luke Fickell will make a mid-season change. If that happened, many fans would also blame Fickell.
Must win the game for Wisconsin
The Badgers will face the Boilermakers this week, who are 1-3 and 0-1 in BIG10 conference play. If Wisconsin loses to Purdue, there will be plenty of blame.
Much of the blame will fall on head coach Luke Fickell and offensive coordinator Phil Longo. When Longo was arrested, many thought the crime would be explosive, but it wasn’t. They have been unlucky at the quarterback position over the last few seasons, but it also depends on the coach.
