Rock bass will smash any bait thrown in front of them, but once they get hooked, they fight with the ferocity of paper towels.
Still, you have to admire this unassuming member of the sunfish family because it strikes when all other fish refuse to eat. If you are lucky enough to catch a meal of rock perch, don’t look for anything to worry about. Just wait for the delicious food.
