The Green Bay Packers have had nine practices in training camp. What’s next for practice 10? Family night at Lambeau Field. Saturday night’s main event will be a full practice with live scrimmage and 11-on-11 work. It will start at 7:30 p.m., and the team will stream it all live on Packers.com.
Who should you pay special attention to during Family Evening?
Here are five players to watch:
S. Evan Williams
Rookies might be a little embarrassed to be on Family Night, practicing in front of 65,000 people (or more!) under the radiant lights of Lambeau Field. It’s certainly a different kind of experience that you won’t find anywhere else. But fourth-string safety Evan Williams has shown that no moment is too vital for him through the first two weeks of training camp. He’s been a surprising standout, flashing his ball skills, even running back. Now it’s time to see if he can replicate that success and get comfortable in what feels like a real game. Williams is currently competing with Anthony Johnson Jr. and fellow rookie Javon Bullard for reps in the starting lineup alongside Xavier McKinney. He’s made a powerful impression so far, but a powerful showing on Family Night could give him a slight edge. — Brandon Carville
K. Anders Carlson
The sophomore kicker is fresh off a 4-of-7 performance during Thursday’s practice and is now 25-of-31 in nine practices. Meanwhile, Carlson’s competition, Greg “The Leg” Joseph, was 7-of-7 and is now 29-of-31. It was last year on Family Night that Carlson really started to gain momentum throughout training camp, when he was 8-of-9, including a 51-yard bomb. Consistency has been an issue during Carlson’s rookie campaign, and he had a powerful start to camp up until Thursday’s practice. Will the sophomore kicker rebound in a gigantic way Saturday in front of a packed Lambeau Field to get back to normal? — Brennen Rupp
WR Grant DuBose
The top four receivers look mostly settled, with Bo Melton, Malik Heath and Samori Toure all playing in significant regular-season games. And let’s not forget DuBose, the seventh overall pick last year, who has impressed after two weeks of camp. Can he put together another gigantic performance and continue to keep the receiver competition captivating? Coach Matt LaFleur praised him earlier this week. “Very accurate guy, puts in a lot of effort, has great hands, can run the ball, is strong.” It’s time to see those attributes in action on Family Night.-Zach Kruse
CB Kalen King
The rookie seventh-rounder had the pick-six on Jordan Love earlier this week. With Carrington Valentine nursing a hamstring injury, it’s possible King will see plenty of opportunities to play on both the first and second-team defenses. The Packers have no shortage of receivers, so any newborn cornerback’s reputation will be a struggle. Will King be able to continue playing, especially when the lights come up on Family Night? Not long ago, a rookie cornerback named Sam Shields made a splash during his annual practice at Lambeau Field. TE Luke Musgrave
All of the receivers made key plays during training camp. Musgrave was a bit silent in the passing game, but don’t let that dampen his potential as a breakout candidate in Year 2. Can Musgrave operate his speed and size to create some gigantic plays? His 2024 hype train could really accelerate if he can make some key plays on Family Night. —Zach Kruse
