Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur gave positive updates on the health of wide receivers Christian Watson and Jayden Reed ahead of Thursday’s closed practice.
Update: Watson and Reed practice on Thursday.
LaFleur said Watson “feels good” after suffering the injury that forced him to sit out Wednesday’s practice.
“It was a big scare. He seems to be fine this morning. He just got hit in the knee,” LaFleur said.
Not only is Watson feeling good, LaFleur said he believes his third-year player will participate in some practice on Thursday.
Watson was injured while competing with rookie Evan Williams for Jordan Love’s shot in the two-minute span on Wednesday. Watson went down difficult and lay up for several minutes as practice ended.
After training, Watson admitted he had a bruise and his leg was sore but avoided solemn injury.
“It hurt a lot more at that point,” Watson said. “I’m just grateful.”
On the injury front, LaFleur said there are no long-term concerns for Reed, who missed Wednesday’s practice with a calf injury.
It’s unclear whether Watson or Reed will play in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns. LaFleur expects all vigorous veterans — including quarterback Jordan Love — to play in the preseason.
