Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love wants to lend a hand quarterback Josh Jacobs avoid an undesirable outcome in the 2024 NFL season.
Jacobs now has 197 career receptions without a touchdown. If he catches five consecutive passes without a touchdown, he will break the NFL record for career receptions without a touchdown.
IN Bleacher Report AMA VideoLove said he was aware of the potential record and was determined to make sure Jacobs didn’t break it.
“No, that’s not going to happen,” Love said. “I saw that recently. I’m surprised he hasn’t scored a touchdown yet. Let’s see, 197 career receptions, zero touchdowns. I sent him that and said, ‘Bro, you’re definitely going to score a touchdown.’ The first pass to him could be a touchdown, who knows. Five receptions from him? We’ll make sure he scores a touchdown.”
Former NFL quarterback Gerald Riggs currently holds the record with 201 catches without a touchdown. Currently, the only players in NFL history with 150 or more catches and zero touchdowns are Riggs and Jacobs. And only seven players in history have 100 or more catches and zero receptions.
The Packers plan to employ Jacobs — who has 46 rushing touchdowns — heavily in the passing game in 2024. It’s possible he could come close to matching or breaking the record early in the regular season.
Last season, Aaron Jones averaged almost three receptions per game.
The Packers play the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil in Week 1, and the Indianapolis Colts at Lambeau Field in Week 2. Will Love find Jacobs for a score? Can Matt LaFleur pick the right play to put Jacobs in position to score a touchdown in the passing game? NFL history awaits if Jacobs has five catches before a touchdown in 2024.
