The Green Bay Packers don’t fit the typical look of a seller at the NFL trade deadline, but two of their veteran players who will be on the line of scrimmage have attracted interest ahead of the Nov. 5 deadline.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoportteams have inquired about or are interested in forward Preston Smith and offensive tackle Andre Dillard.
Smith is “on the radar of several teams,” while Dillard is viewed as a “break option” for teams in need of an offensive tackle.
Would the Packers even consider trading either player?
Smith turns 32 next month and is a valuable leader in the locker room. On the depth chart, he was on the field for 59 percent of the defense’s snaps, up from 66 percent last year and 80 percent in 2022. The Packers have 2023 first-round pick Lukas Van Ness and third-year cornerback Kingsley Enagbare behind Smith. .
Dillard signed after the draft and was named to the 53-man roster as a backup attackman. He appeared in three matches, but in 2024 he did not play in attack once. Dillard has 19 career starts. Rasheed Walker and Zach Tom are scorching on the offensive end, but having Dillard provides valuable depth at the top offensive tackle position.
What if the Packers are buyers? Rapoport began his report with the possibility of signing Los Angeles Rams trade receiver Cooper Kupp, but the Packers are mostly receiver-oriented. Mike Williams of the New York Jets is also believed to be available. Other players generating interest include Giants forward Azeez Ojulari and Browns defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson.
