Former Minnesota Vikings tight end Stefon Diggs has been a thorn in the side of the Green Bay Packers for most of the last decade. Now in Houston, Diggs will have an impressive (and near-record long) touchdown streak against the Packers when the Texans arrive at Lambeau Field on Sunday.
Beginning in 2016, Diggs caught a touchdown in eight consecutive games against the Packers.
According to TexansDiggs will set the second-longest streak in the NFL for a touchdown against a single opponent if he catches a touchdown against the Packers on Sunday. Bob Hayes holds the record with 12 consecutive games and a touchdown against the New York Giants. Mel Gray is second in nine straight games (vs. Dallas Cowboys).
According to Stathead, Diggs is currently tied for the most consecutive games with Hall of Famer Randy Moss for touchdown catches against the Packers. Counting the playoffs, Moss had eight straight games against the Packers from 2002-2012.
From 2016 to 2019, Diggs was busy for seven games against the Packers as a member of the Vikings. He caught a touchdown pass in all seven games. In 2022, Diggs caught a pass from Josh Allen in a 27-17 win over the Packers in Buffalo.
For his career, Diggs has 52 catches for 764 yards and nine touchdowns in 10 games against the Packers. With another touchdown catch, Diggs would become just the eighth player in history to catch at least 10 career passes against the Packers.
The Packers’ priority on Sunday will be keeping Diggs out of the end zone. The Texans will be without top receiver Nico Collins, who is on injured reserve, making Diggs one of C.J. Stroud’s top targets in the passing game.
Diggs, who is almost 31, is still producing. He has at least four catches in all six games with the Texans this season, and caught a pass from Stroud in last week’s win at New England.
Through six games, Diggs is catching 77.2 percent of his targets, a career high. He averaged 8.2 yards per target.
Few players have been as productive, especially over the last five seasons. Diggs has 100 or more catches in four straight seasons and 1,000 or more receiving yards in six straight seasons.
Can the Packers stop Diggs behind schedule, end his impressive streak and stop Stroud and the Texans’ impoverished passing game on Sunday?
