The numbness in his hands and fingers has passed, but Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love continues to deal with pain from his injured right elbow and was narrow in practice Wednesday.
Love injured a nerve in his elbow when he fell to the ground in the second quarter of a game against the Chicago Bears in the season finale. He lost feeling in his right hand and was unable to grip the ball properly, so backup Malik Willis sat out the final 2.5 quarters of the regular season.
Love said his hand felt better on Monday and is confident about his chances of overcoming the lingering pain on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Wild Card round.
“We’ll see, yes, I’m hopeful,” Love said Wednesday.
Coach Matt LaFleur said Love was able to throw the ball during Wednesday’s practice. It is unclear whether Love will be a full participant in any of this week’s practices. The Packers will hold official practices on Thursday and Friday before issuing their final health report and heading to Philadelphia.
Willis, a substitute, is also struggling with an injury. He injured his right thumb after finishing the game against Malik Heath in the fourth quarter and was unable to play at Sunday’s training. His status may be more uncertain than Love’s, given that the injury has affected Willis’ grip on football.
If needed, the Packers have Sean Clifford available as their No. 3 quarterback on the practice squad.
