Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur quickly provided an update on the health of cornerback Josh Jacobs, receiver Christian Watson, cornerback Jaire Alexander and backup Evan Williams after Monday’s 34-0 victory over the New Orleans Saints at Lambeau Field.
The news was good for Jacobs, but disturbing for Watson and Williams.
On Jacobs, who barely played in the second half: “He wanted to get back on the field, but there was no need. I actually told him at half-time that we’ll give you another run in the second half, but I want to get you out. It’s only a brief week, so I want to get him ready for Minnesota. Jacobs finished the game with 107 yards and a touchdown on 17 touches (13 carries, 4 receptions).
On Watson, who left with a knee injury: “There are definitely some concerns. We’ll do some more testing tomorrow and hopefully I’ll have an answer for you tomorrow. Watson was injured behind schedule in a run in the first half. He returned to the game for a brief period, but left and did not return in the second half.
On Alexander, who trained intensely all week but was inactive for a fifth straight game: “I just didn’t feel like he was on the right track yet.” Alexander is trying to come back from a knee injury he suffered in behind schedule October. His status for next Sunday in Minnesota has yet to be determined.
On Williams. who did not play due to a quadriceps injury suffered this week in training: “There are concerns. I think he will be out for a while. Nothing long term, just one of those deals. This is unfortunate. I think it happened during the first training session (on Saturday). I know he’s upset because this is the second time this has happened to him. But hopefully we can get him back in time for the playoffs. Zayne Anderson came on in place of Williams on Monday night and made an interception. Williams previously missed time with a tender tissue injury before Week 9.
