Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur said quarterback Jordan Love is feeling good in his first game after missing two games with a knee injury.
Love took a few hits, including one that he described as painful in the first half, but he enters the week in good form.
“He’s sore, but he feels good,” LaFleur said Monday.
Love completed 32 of 54 passes for 389 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions in the Packers’ 31-29 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. The Vikings sacked him once and finished with 10 quarterback hits.
LaFleur admitted that Love had to shake off some rust early, especially when it came to ball placement. He wasn’t surprised that the quarterback who missed time needed snaps to get back into the hole.
“Sometimes you just have to go out there and have fun,” LaFleur said. “I think he can handle it on his own. I’m not worried about it. He will do everything in his power to fix this and I have every confidence that it will get better.
After throwing two interceptions for touchdowns early in the first half, Love hit Jayden Reed overdue in the second quarter for a score, then threw three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter as the Packers tried to make a furious offense. After an uncertain first half, he settled into the team and looked better and better towards the end.
Love said after the game that he hoped the knee would continue to heal, but also acknowledged that the injury could linger. He sprained his left MCL during the Packers’ first loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil.
LaFleur said receiver Christian Watson (ankle) will be sidelined for about a week, potentially suggesting he will avoid the injured reserve. There is less information on defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt, who is also dealing with a novel ankle injury.
