Sections Packers rookie RB MarShawn Lloyd to make NFL debut against Colts

Sunday could be a gigantic day for the Green Bay Packers’ 2024 rookies. Not only will second-round pick Edgerrin Cooper and fourth-round pick Evan Williams likely take on a larger role on defense, but rookie quarterback MarShawn Lloyd — who was inactive in Week 1 — is expected to make his NFL debut Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Lloyd was listed as questionable on the final injury report for Week 2. He injured his hamstring in the preseason opener on Aug. 10 and has been sidelined or narrow in play since.

Unlike the season opener, the Packers did not sign any quarterbacks from the practice squad for Week 2, giving Lloyd a chance to play on Sunday.

With Lloyd inactive for the opener, the Packers got 84 yards on 16 carries from Josh Jacobs and 46 yards on four carries from backup Emanuel Wilson. Ellis Merriweather was promoted to No. 3 running back.

It’s unclear whether Wilson or Lloyd will be the second option behind Jacobs on Sunday, but Wilson — who impressed in the opener — is the better choice.

The Packers drafted Lloyd in the third round in 2024. The Packers could get contributions from at least five of their first six picks on Sunday. Jordan Morgan will rotate in and out at right guard, Javon Bullard will start at safety, Cooper will see more plays at linebacker, Lloyd could get a draft touch or two and Williams is likely to have a safety role.

The inactive players will be announced around 10:30 a.m. Sunday. While Jordan Love is expected to be inactive due to a knee injury, Lloyd is not expected to join him.
