Sections Packers WR Christian Watson looking for symmetry to avoid hamstring injuries

Green Bay Packers receiver Christian Watson feels he’s 100 percent after hamstring injuries cut miniature his 2023 season, and he’s confident that fixing the “asymmetry” issue – discovered during a visit to hamstring specialists at UW-Madison – will ensure you have a better chance of staying robust and avoiding injury in 2024 and beyond.

Watson said the key to progress is building symmetry in leg strength.

“For me, it was just asymmetry between my legs,” Watson said Tuesday. “I was attacking his strong side, trying to get his symmetry back, and that was huge for me.”

The third-year judge said persistent weakness from past injuries likely contributed to the asymmetry. The goal now is to build strength for balance, and so far it’s been working. On Tuesday, Watson was on the field as a full OTA participant.

“I feel really good, I’m still building it and getting stronger,” Watson said Tuesday. “I definitely feel like I’m 100 percent ready for what I can do on the field right now.”

Watson missed the first three games of the 2023 season with a hamstring injury, then re-injured his hamstring against the Kansas City Chiefs in early December, forcing him to miss the final five games of the regular season. Watson, a second-round pick in the 2022 draft, has missed 11 games over two NFL seasons.

Coach Matt LaFleur said Watson is in a “really good place” at this point in his offseason training program.

Can Watson continue to build strength, find symmetry, avoid fatigue and stress, and eliminate the injuries that have prevented him from playing a regular role with the Packers? A 6-4 player with exceptional speed and athletic ability, Watson has proven he can create gigantic plays and score touchdowns when he’s on the field. Now he’s armed with the information he needs to stay on the field.
