The Green Bay Packers didn’t have an edge or interior defender ranked in the top 20 for ESPN’s win rate for the 2024 season, but both Rashan Gary and TJ Slaton were viewed as elite players against the run.
In fact, both Gary and Slaton led their positions in run winning percentage in 2024.
For ESPN analysisGary produced 63 “wins” in 170 games, good for an NFL-best 37.0 win percentage. Meanwhile, Slaton had 87 “wins” in 191 games, good for an NFL-best 46.0 win percentage.
Overall, the Packers’ defense finished sixth in overall winning percentage against the run at 33 percent.
In his first year with Jeff Hafley as the Packers’ defensive coordinator, he allowed only 4.0 yards per carry and finished in the top 10 in total rushing yards allowed. Green Bay was particularly good down the stretch, giving up less than 100 yards in six of its final seven regular-season games.
Gary and Slaton were substantial plaintiffs.
At Pro Football Focus, Gary ranked fifth among edge rushers in his stop percentage. He finished with 23 stops — or tackles that create an offensive tackle — against the run. PFF credited Slaton with 19 stops against the run, but viewed him as a delicate defender according to his overall grade (44.0).
He finished eighth against the run according to EPA/Play Packers.
Slaton, who is on an expiring contract, is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this season.
