Should the Milwaukee Brewers re-team with recently released pitcher Adrian Houser?

This Milwaukee Breweries They have used the most starting pitchers of any team in the league this year. Of that group, Wade Miley and Robert Gasser finished the season, prospect Carlos Rodriguez was sent back to Triple-A, and they released Dallas Keuchel after a brief stint. They have until July 30 to acquire players via trade, but if they can’t get some of their targets, recently released Adrian Houser could be an option for them.

Last season, former Milwaukee Brewers GM David Stearns brought Adrian Houser and Tyrone Taylor to the Big Apple in a trade involving prospect Coleman Crow. Houser didn’t fare well in 2024, as he had a 5.84 ERA in 23 games (seven starts). The Mets DFA’d him on waivers on Friday, July 26, and he can now be claimed by the organization or traded by the Mets.

What happens if Adrian Houser is not claimed and the New York Mets do not trade him?

There is a forceful possibility that Adrian Houser could go unclaimed and also not be traded. According to MLB Trade Rumors, he is due around $1.7 million of his $5.05 million salary, and the acquiring team would be responsible for it. If he clears waivers and is not traded, he could become a free agent, at which point he could be acquired for the league minimum.

Despite his struggles in 2024, Adrian Houser has previously found success in a Brewers uniform. He has a 4.00 ERA and has thrown one complete shutout in eight seasons in Milwaukee. He is a ground-ball inducer and could benefit from Brew Crews’ defensive, solid infield.

Once all the dust settles, it’s possible Milwaukee could bring back Adrian Houser. If he clears waivers and isn’t traded, the Brewers wouldn’t have to bring him back on a major league deal and could keep him in the minor leagues for depth. It’ll be engaging to see if a reunion happens or not.
