Much of the concern about this wave of warming will focus on the Lake Winnebago system, where sturgeon fishermen have been anxiously monitoring the ice situation this past week.
The 16-day sturgeon season will open Saturday, Feb. 10, regardless of ice conditions. The DNR does not have the authority to close the season based on ice conditions. Sturgeon spearers must make their own decision as to whether they have “safe” ice on which to travel.
