Wisconsin is a leading state in the production of major processed vegetables, including green beans, carrots and green peas. We also rank third in the country in terms of potato production. We produce over half of the country’s cranberries – our national fruit – and cherries.
Finally, we have more dairy farms than any other state, and nearly 6,400 of them live in Wisconsin. These dairies contribute more than $45 billion to our state’s economy each year. We also have over 1,200 licensed cheesemakers – almost twice as many as any other state!
In 2021, Wisconsin’s exports reached an all-time record of nearly $4 billion. Our state’s most vital exports include ginseng roots, cranberries, raw fur hides, bovine semen, whey and sweet corn. Wisconsin ranks fifth in cheese exports and first in specialty cheeses.
