As my hunting partner Jim Rundell of Madison, Wisconsin, and I walked through the field, dozens of turtle doves took to the air from the flat stalks in front of us as we headed toward our opening morning perches.
With swivel chairs slung over our shoulders, we were full of anticipation of an abundance of dove shooting in the fields. Now, if you think we are crossing into one of the 32 fields that the Wisconsin DNR manages for dove hunting, you are mistaken.
