The Wisconsin Badgers secured a huge upset victory over a tough Arizona Wildcats team that some thought could have beaten Madison.
The Badgers They haven’t had the dominant performance that fans really expected, but that changed against the Wildcats. Arizona was stalled in the first half, trailing the Badgers by 18 points, before blowing the lead in the second half. However, in the second half, Wisconsin came back on offense and managed to take the lead with another comfortable lead.
Arizona was largely a team that analysts predicted would dominate this season and would compete for a potential NCAA national championship. Defenseman Caleb Love and forward Tobe Awaka are two players who can really hurt the team in many ways. The Wildcats proved to be an easier test for the Badgers than initially thought, and certainly looked like a team struggling at times against a sturdy defense.
Defenseman John Tonje was the main offensive presence for the Wisconsin Badgers against the Wildcats, scoring four triples. Tonje scored 41 points and looked great doing it, making astute shots and driving in the lane. The guard also committed a ton of fouls and made a cross from the free throw line against the Wildcats defense.
Steven Crowl was the unsung hero of the team, providing most of the attacking assists while looking composed. The gigantic man is rarely seen in transition situations, but he has performed admirably in the past when doing so for the Wisconsin Badgers. Crowl finished the game with six assists for the Badgers, which led to an offense against the Wildcats.
What went right, what went wrong for the Wisconsin Badgers against Arizona
While the Wisconsin Badgers were able to secure a win over the Arizona Wildcats, that doesn’t mean everything went according to plan.
Starting on the defensive side of the ball, the Badgers allowed the Wildcats to score numerous runs, including one particularly long one in the second half. Wisconsin has had trouble stopping runs throughout the season so far and may continue to do so in the future without solving the problem. The Badgers look sluggish at times, as if the team is relieved after a run.
On the offensive end, the Wisconsin Badgers turned the ball over ten times, allowing Arizona to keep the score steady and cut into the lead. The Badgers struggled with turnovers last season and lost games because of it, but the problem continues this season, which is concerning.
What the Wisconsin Badgers did really well was move the ball and control the offense throughout the game. Wisconsin passed the ball to Tonje and made sure the defender was able to take a shot he was comfortable with.
