“That’s huge!” – Wisconsin Badgers make huge commitments in 2025 and move away from arch-rival Michigan

The Wisconsin Badgers made a splash after luring Jaylen Williams away from his commitment to the Michigan Wolverines.

The Badgers have long been pursuing multiple players in the 2025 class, even though they have listed commitments to various schools. Perseverance worked Wisconsin Badgers when it came to landing Williams, who was finally convinced enough to jump ship and leave the Wolverines. Williams is from Illinois and was one of the top recruits Michigan State had in the 2025 class, earning a four-star rating and a No. 279 national ranking.

Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell watches as quarterback Mabrey Mettauer throws a pass during practice just outside Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday, April 7, 2024.

Williams is 6-foot-6, approximately 265 pounds and has an incredible balance of strength and speed. Williams’ long frame allows the defender to get off the line quickly and exert influence on the defensive line. His main quick moves all involve speed and length, with the defender typically flowing past either side of the lineman.

When it comes to the smallest details, Williams is a powerhouse grinder who is no stranger to overcoming adversity of any kind. The defender also has an incredible ability to read the game and always seems to find his way into the game, regardless of where the play ends. Even when Williams is composed, given his speed and vision, the defender is a arduous player to completely eliminate from any play.

What the Wisconsin Badgers really like about Williams is his willingness to continue working towards whatever the game brings him. The tenacity and ability to wage fierce battles against blocking opponents is something that really impressed the staff. Williams is a high, long player even with his pads on and doesn’t look nearly as threatening as his game.

What will the Wisconsin Badgers gain with Jaylen Williams’ fresh signing?

While Williams is an incredible country for Wisconsin, the defender will need some work before he can make a huge impact at the next level. Williams is a bit leisurely in terms of technical development and has at times relied on his physical skills that won’t hold up in college against much larger offensive linemen. Other than his throwing ability, Williams has little left to improve before he plays college football next season.

For the Wisconsin Badgers, the next step for Williams will be to technically develop the defender to the next level. At first glance, Williams still doesn’t need to understand when to utilize the different tools in his arsenal of moves.

Learning just this diminutive aspect of the game could really turn Williams into a more effective passer next season. Understanding the different technical skills can allow Williams to utilize the least amount of energy needed to achieve his goal of stopping the game.

If Wisconsin can develop Williams technically, then the recruit could truly turn into a monster defender on the field.
