The Green Bay Packers won’t have to guard Brock Purdy or block Nick Bosa when the San Francisco 49ers come to Lambeau Field on Sunday. Kyle Shanahan’s team ruled out both players in the final injury report presented Friday afternoon.
Purdy is dealing with a right shoulder injury following last week’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He had narrow opportunities on Wednesday and Thursday and did not take part on Friday. Veteran backup Brandon Allen – who is 2-7 as a starter in his NFL career – will start on Sunday.
Bosa struggled with hip and oblique injuries this season. He didn’t practice at all this week and won’t play on Sunday, decimating the 49ers’ already disappointing pass rush. Entering Week 12, Bosa has a team-high pressure rating of 52.
According to ESPN stats and information via Rob DemovskyThe 49ers have an 18 percent pressure rate and a 2 percent sack rate without Bosa on the field this season. They would rank last in the NFL in both categories, which suggests Sunday’s pass rush against Jordan Love and the Packers may not cause disruption.
Yetur Gross-Matos and Sam Okuayinonu will be asked to play edge rusher snaps in Bosa’s absence. The 49ers are also missing Javon Hargrave, the team’s leading tackler.
In addition to Purdy and Bosa, the 49ers also ruled out Charvarius Ward, who is still mourning the death of his family. Linebacker Tatum Bethune, receiver Jacob Cowing and linebacker Keith Gives will also be out. Left guard Trent Williams did not practice this week, but is questionable for the game due to the ankle injury he suffered last week.
The Packers ruled out cornerback Jaire Alexander and linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, two starters on Jeff Hafley’s defense.
