The $8 million wing is a potential trade target for the Milwaukee Bucks

There is no shortage when it comes to the Milwaukee Bucks’ offseason needs. One potential player the front office could target in the coming months is Charlotte Hornets winger Cody Martin.

Martin was selected 36th overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the league 2019 NBA Draft. He showed promise in 2021, playing in 71 games and averaging a career-high 7.7 points per game. However, over the past two years, Martin’s playing time has been significantly reduced, playing in just 35 games.

In 2022, Martin underwent arthroscopic knee surgery, expecting a powerful rebound the following season. Unfortunately, his journey turned into a frustrating ordeal as he experienced lingering post-surgery pain and an unfortunate ankle injury.

Despite these setbacks, Martin gained recognition in Charlotte for his exceptional on-ball defensive skills, making him one of the team’s most outstanding defenders in recent memory. Although he has struggled to regain his top form this year, he has shown glimpses of his former self in 28 games played. However, his career-high of 7.7 made field goals per game this year coincided with: low career field goal percentage with 38 percent

Even though Martin is trying to stay vigorous, there are still some advantages to any team that wants to sign him. Forbes’ Brian Sampson explained why the Hornets wing could be the perfect addition for Bucks head coach Doc Rivers and a great guy to slot alongside two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and All-Star guard Damian Lillard.

“Cody Martin is scheduled to earn $8.1 million in 2024-25 and $8.7 million in 2025-26, the latter amount being non-guaranteed. This contract could be very attractive to the Milwaukee Bucks for several reasons.

First, Martin provides size and defensive versatility that would complement Damian Lillard in the backcourt. At 6-foot-4, Martin is capable of guarding the wings, which is a key need for Milwaukee heading into the NBA Finals.

His length and agility also allow him to disrupt opposing point guards, adding another layer to the Bucks’ defensive schemes. In addition to his defensive skills, Martin also brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the pitch. He fights for every possession and is an excellent stickman, doing the sullied work that often goes unnoticed but is crucial to the team’s success. Samson wrote.

If Martin can stay vigorous, he can bring a lot of value to the table with his two-way game. With his potential performance on the court, the Bucks’ performance on both ends of the court will improve.

Time will tell if Milwaukee can land Martin and if he can even stay vigorous for next season. What is certain, however, is that it offers a lot of promises at a very affordable price.
