Ongoing problems in the Chicago Bears’ offense have led to major changes ahead of Sunday’s visit of the Green Bay Packers. According to NFL Network’s Tom PelisseroThe Bears are firing offensive coordinator Shane Waldron and turning over passing game coordinator duties to Thomas Brown.
A change at offensive coordinator will pose a up-to-date challenge for defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley as the Packers bid farewell and prepare to face the growing Bears offense.
Coach Matt Eberflus suggested there could be some gigantic changes for the Bears after losing their third straight game in Week 10.
Chicago scored just three points in last Sunday’s 19-3 loss to the New England Patriots. The Bears haven’t scored an offensive touchdown since Week 8 and have scored just 27 points in three games since the bye week.
Against the Patriots, the Bears had just 69 yards passing and 142 total yards. Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams has been sacked nine times and has been sacked a total of 18 times in the last three games.
Waldron lasted only nine games as offensive coordinator in his first season with the Bears. He will be replaced by Brown, who has experience calling plays.
Brown was the offensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers in 2023. He also served as the running backs coach and was an assistant head coach under Sean McVay with the Los Angeles Rams from 2020-2022. At the college level, Brown was the offensive coordinator of the Miami Hurricanes for three seasons.
Brown’s performance in 2023 allowed Bryce Young and the Panthers to score 30 points, nearly defeating the Packers in December. However, the Panthers finished 31st in receiving yards and 32nd in receiving yards last season.
The Packers and Browns game will tip off at noon Sunday at Soldier Field.
