The Clipped actor opens up shockingly about Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers

A few years ago, the Los Angeles Clippers were rocked by a scandal that is now the basis of Clipped. It turns out that Laurence Fishburne didn’t know who Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers was before he played with him on the said show.

In 2014, a recording with conversation between Clippers owner Donald Sterling and his lover V. Stiviano. In the video, Sterling expressed his displeasure with Stiviano’s photo with Magic Johnson on Instagram, saying he didn’t want her hanging out with black people or taking them to Clippers games.

The recording gained a lot of media attention and led to legal action. The Clippers held a meeting to discuss the incident, during which coaches and players expressed anger and briefly considered boycotting the playoff game. Instead, they protested by wearing their shirts inside out to unrecognized the team’s logo.

The situation drew widespread condemnation from NBA players including LeBron James, Kevin Johnson, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan, as well as from sponsors and public figures such as President Barack Obama.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver took swift action, banning Sterling for life from the league, imposing a $2.5 million fine and stripping him of control of the Clippers. Silver also announced his intention to force Sterling to sell the team pending approval from three-quarters of the owners of the remaining NBA teams. The punishment was considered one of the harshest ever imposed on the owner of a professional sports team.

The basis was the Sterling scandal Hulu has been cut, a miniseries that aired on FX. Interestingly, Fishburne had no idea who Rivers was before taking on the role of playing him on the show, as written in an article by Adam Wells for Bleacher Report.

“Turns out the allure of playing Doc Rivers on the Los Angeles Clippers TV series didn’t mean much to Laurence Fishburne. He will appear in Tuesday’s episode Dan Patrick showthe actor revealed he had no idea who Rivers was when he was offered a role in the FX miniseries on Hulu Cropped.

Fishburne’s explanation that he is not a sports fan eases some of the sting. It would be different if he watched basketball and somehow never came across Rivers’ name, either as a player or as a head coach. Wells wrote.

It’s vital to remember that Rivers was a key figure at the height of this scandal. He is currently the head coach of the Bucks on a roster that includes two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and All-Star point guard Damian Lillard.

Hulu’s Clipped will certainly shed some featherlight on Rivers’ involvement in this scandal a few years ago. Fishburne certainly knows the former Clippers coach now, even though he’s not a fan of the sport.
