The future of sandhill crane hunting in Wisconsin depends on lawmakers

A bill authorizing a hunting of sandhill cranes in Wisconsin will likely be introduced in the state Legislature at some point next year. The next legislative session convenes on January 6, 2025.
The crane hunt proposal is the result of work carried out by the Legislative Council’s 2024 inquiry committee into sandhill cranes. A bill could also be introduced to give corn farmers money to apply Avipel to corn seeds to make them less attractive to cranes.
