The Green Bay Packers currently have 10 of 11 members of their draft class officially under contract. The only remaining unsigned draft pick is first-round pick Jordan Morgan.
Now, of course, there is nothing to worry about. The deal will be finalized, and there are quite a few early-round picks across the NFL who are still unsigned. Morgan is one of 12 first-round picks across the league that still remain unsigned.
The rookie salary scale sets parameters based on where the player is drafted. It sets a ceiling and floor on the amount each draft pick can earn under a standard four-year contract.
So the negotiations may be somewhat circumscribed, but the focus is on where the player falls in a given salary range and how much of the contract is guaranteed. For more detailed information on the Rookie Salary Scale, please click Here.
Often, the value of the contract and the amount of the guarantee largely depend on what players agreed to in similar drafts. So it’s possible that a Morgan deal will happen sooner rather than later, given that Nos. 22 through 24 and No. 27 have agreed to the terms of the deal, which essentially narrows the already established parameters for where a Morgan deal can happen.
Above the Cap projects that Morgan’s debut deal would be worth $14.185 million with a signing bonus of $7.136 million. His cap value for the 2024 season is estimated at $2.579 million.
As for a potential timeline for a Morgan deal, 2023 first-round draft pick Lukas Van Ness wasn’t signed until June 27.
