The Journey of Buck 5700 in Wisconsin deer survey provides three years of valuable information

In the winter of 2017, on Valentine’s Day in Iowa County, Wisconsin, an 8-month-old buck was captured using a drop net. He weighed 90 pounds and a rectal biopsy was negative for chronic wasting disease.
The research team fitted the deer with an expandable GPS collar with elastic and pleats that allowed it to grow with the deer’s neck as it matured. They named him Buck 5700, and he wore the collar for three full breeding seasons, providing researchers with valuable data on how and where he moved in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
