The key to success in unstable ice fishing seasons is lightness. Here’s where you can cut weight

Not that shedding a few pounds is an excuse to sail on lean ice, but saving a little weight helps us stay agile and on the hunt for fish, especially when we’re hand-hauling this slow in the day in typical mid-winter conditions.
Let’s call it a first-ice mindset, which may be a much bigger part of the season than we intended. Here’s how I try to keep it delicate.
