The Milwaukee Brewers have several players on team or mutual options this offseason that require decisions to be made. Wade Miley, Frankie Montas and Gary Sanchez have joint options, while Freddy Peralta, Devin Williams, Colin Rea and Eric Haase have club options. For this group, Milwaukee quickly announced that they had declined half of Wade Miley’s option.

According to Adam McCalvy, the Brewers have declined half of Wade Miley’s mutual option. If both parties chose this option, Miley would receive a base salary of $12 million for next season. Instead, he will receive $1.5 million in buyout money.
Wade Miley is recovering from Tommy John surgery
Wade Miley, 37, underwent Tommy John surgery midway through the 2024 season. He is expected to miss at least half of the 2025 season, and due to his age, there are major concerns about his ability to return to the large leagues. Currently, this picture is further complicated by the fact that he is unemployed and may not have all the resources he had access to at the beginning of his rehabilitation.
Wade Miley has found success in a Milwaukee Brewers uniform
In three seasons with the Brewers (2018, 2023 and 2024), Wade Miley started 41 games, had an ERA of 3.03 and pitched just over 200 innings. He gave Milwaukee some much-needed support in the second half of the 2018 season, was a constant presence throughout 2023, and as mentioned, his 2024 season was cut compact due to electing Tommy John surgery.
Hopefully, Wade Miley will be able to make a full recovery and be in the large leagues again next year, whether he wears a Brewers uniform or not.
