The Milwaukee Brewers won’t sign Trevor Bauer, but it’s not just for the reason fans think

The Milwaukee Breweries they are 38-26 years venerable and are in first place in the Central Division of the National League. It’s an impressive feat that doesn’t get enough recognition in the national media considering how little their rotation in the starting lineup was. Before the season, many questioned how good the starting pitching would be without Corbin Burnes (who was traded to the Baltimore Orioles) and Brandon Woodruff (who is sidelined for the year with injury).

However, the concerns surrounding the Brewers’ starting pitching were not due to their indigent performance, but rather that it was tough to get fit starting pitchers to take the mound at all. As of this writing, Milwaukee has five starters (in the entire starting rotation) on the injured list: Wade Miley, DL Hall, Joe Ross, Jakob Junis and Robert Gasser.

With starters dropping left and right, many fans took to social media to ask why the Brewers wouldn’t sign free agent pitcher Trevor Bauer.

Trevor Bauer is doing well on the international stage

Bauer’s supporters point to his international stats over the past two seasons as evidence he deserves another chance to play in Major League Baseball. It must be admitted that they are very good.

In 2023, Bauer appeared in Japan and had an 11-4 record with a 2.59 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. He also struck out 160 batters in 156.2 innings pitched.

Bauer is pitching in Mexico this year and is 7-0 with an ERA of 1.70 and a WHIP of 1.00. He also has 76 strikeouts in just 53 innings.

With such outstanding numbers, why don’t the Brewers or any other MLB team blow up his phone? After all, in 2020 and 2021, Bauer was 13-9 with a 2.24 ERA, three complete games and two shutouts.

The Milwaukee Brewers will not sign Trevor Bauer for a variety of reasons

Everyone knows about the assault charges against Bauer that led to his suspension for a record 194 games. Since last yearBauer has completed a trial with his original accuser, but he faces another trial related to allegations made against him by another woman.

It is also a fact that Bauer was never arrested or charged with any crime. Because there are several Major League Baseball players currently playing for who To have was arrested and charged with assault and abuse (think Aroldis Chapman), the logical conclusion is that the charges against Bauer actually have nothing to do with the reason he didn’t sign with the Brewers or other Major League teams.

The truth is that no team wants to sign Bauer because no one wants to play with him. He is a club cancer who often threw tantrums on the pitch and showed up to his manager.

Take, for example, the breakdown he had with the Cleveland Guardians in 2019:

After giving up multiple hits and runs, manager Terry Francona came out to pull Bauer from the game. On the way out, Bauer grabbed the ball and violently threw it into midfield. One of his teammates reacted as if he thought Bauer was going to throw it at him.

Shortly after this incident, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds.

And this isn’t the only time Bauer has done something like this. There are numerous reports of players saying they do not want to play with him or have him on their team.

Brewers succeed largely because of how well they work as a team. Adding Bauer could ruin that. And if there was any doubt that he would improve his behavior after his suspension, this video from Japan from last year provided the answer:

Allegations aside, he is not the type of person, player, teammate or whatever label Milwaukee wants on their team. Given the allegations, he is a public relations nightmare that no Major League team wants any part of, least of all the Brewers.
