The modern Milwaukee Bucks player is expected to be nominated to play in the starting lineup

Even though he’s playing his first season with the Milwaukee Bucks this year, there’s no denying the impact Gary Trent Jr. has, especially on the offensive end. Because of that, the former Toronto Raptors star is expected to start as the team’s primary shooting guard when the upcoming campaign gets underway.

Trent’s basketball journey began in high school in Apple Valley, Minnesota, where he showed off his talent before transferring to Prolific Prep in California for his senior year. He excelled in high school, earning accolades such as Gatorade Minnesota Player of the Year and McDonald’s All-American.

Coming off of college, Trent Jr. committed to Duke University in 2016, where he joined a highly rated recruiting class. Despite starting as a freshman, he made significant contributions to the team, setting records and earning recognition in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

In the professional arena, Trent Jr. was drafted by the Sacramento Kings in 2018 but eventually ended up with the Portland Trail Blazers. Throughout his years with the Blazers and later the Toronto Raptors, he showed steady improvement in his performance, eventually leading to his current role from Bucks.

Off the court, Trent Jr. comes from a family affluent in basketball, as his father, Gary Trent Sr., also played professionally. This family influence likely played a role in shaping his own successful basketball career.

Over the years, Trent has established himself as one of the league’s best 3-and-D players. According to a report by Brian Sampson for Forbes, the former Raptors star is expected to enter the season as Milwaukee’s primary shooting guard.

“Trent Jr. is the clear favorite. He was a great free agent signing with minimal veteran experience. He fits the bill, but he’s not exactly the type of player Milwaukee needs next to Lillard. Trent is a great three-point shooter, but he lacks the defensive skills the Bucks need. He’ll be put in that role, though, and it’ll be interesting to see if he can do better than Malik Beasley did last season.” Sampson wrote.

Over the last six years of his NBA careerTrent averaged 14.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. In addition to shooting 38 percent from three, his previous experience playing alongside All-Star point guard Damian Lillard will likely benefit Giannis Antetokounmpo’s team.

With Trent on board, the Bucks could gain another consistent shot creator to play alongside Lillard and Antetokounmpo. If all goes well, Milwaukee could soon find itself competing for another ring.
