The Packers front office must move quickly to fill open roster spots ahead of the playoffs

The Green Bay Packers face significant roster challenges after losing two key players over the weekend, cornerback Jaire Alexander and wide receiver Christian Watson.

The team placed Alexander on injured reserve on Saturday. He this is required he will sit out the next four games, meaning he can only return if the Packers get to the Super Bowl. Alexander has played just 10 snaps since spraining his PCL during Green Bay’s Week 8 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Watson suffered a non-contact knee injury Sunday’s loss to the Chicago Bears. According to NFL Network’s Ian RapoportWatson suffered a torn ACL and potentially other knee damage. On Monday, LaFleur confirmed that Watson would be sidelined for the rest of the season.

Asked about the two open roster spots, LaFleur said he discussed it with general manager Brian Gutekunst on Monday morning.

“I think we’re looking at everything right now,” LaFleur said.

Of course, Alexander and Watson cannot be replaced. Alexander is one of the best corners in the league when fit, while Watson is a versatile offensive weapon whose size and speed are challenging to replicate.

Besides, if the Packers want it, there’s someone who can potentially this would contribute to advancing to the play-offs probably there must be some players from the training squad or players who are already familiar with their routine.

The Packers will need to act quickly if they plan to make any additions to their lineup. According to NFL CalendarBeginning at 4:00 PM ET on Wednesday, January 8, team rosters will be frozen for clubs participating in the postseason, with circumscribed exceptions.
