The Green Bay Packers could return three key players to the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears. Coach Matt LaFleur he told The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman that he is “optimistic” that cornerback Jaire Alexander, center Josh Myers and safety Evan Williams will return from injuries following the team’s Week 10 bye.
Alexander, Myers and Williams missed the Packers’ Week 9 loss to the Detroit Lions.
Alexander suffered a knee injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars and did not practice at all in Week 9. Myers was unable to play because of a persistent or worsening wrist injury, and Williams sat out recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered during pre-game warmups in Jacksonville.
The Packers left all three starters against the Lions. Quarterback Jared Goff completed 18 of 22 passes, including all seven attempts to Amon-Ra St. Brown, while backup center Elgton Jenkins took several penniless shots in moist and rainy conditions at Lambeau Field.
With a bye week off, all three could be on track to return as the Packers begin preparing for their trip to Chicago.
The Packers need a win at the end of the season, not only to erase the taste of a disappointing loss to the Lions, but also to secure their first win of the season in the league. LaFleur’s team is 0-2 with two home losses heading into 2024 NFC North play. The Packers will face the Bears twice before traveling to the Lions and Vikings in the final eight games of the season.
The Packers will not practice or release injury reports from Week 11 through Wednesday.
Elsewhere on the injury front, the Packers are expected to name quarterback MarShawn Lloyd, who will be returning from injured reserve. He hasn’t played since suffering an ankle injury in Week 2.
