Two days after Brayden Narveson missed two field goals in a two-point loss to the Minnesota Vikings, the Green Bay Packers made a pair of kicks on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Field Yates via ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.
There were four players in the training group. In addition to quarterback Gavin Hardison and receiver Lideatrick Griffin, the Packers practiced kicker Chad Ryland and kicker Lucas Havrisik.
Narveson, who was released from the lineup after final cuts, missed four field goals in four games. On Sunday, he became the first NFL player to miss a field goal from less than 40 yards when his 37-yarder hit the right upright and later missed a 49-yard field goal in the first half. Trailing by three or more points, the Packers settled for a 4th-and-10 and a 4th-and-8 within reach of the basket after two Narveson misses.
It’s possible the Packers update their free agent board at kicker in case Narveson’s struggles continue. Or CEO Brian Gutekunst has seen enough and is ready (or almost ready) to make a change.
Ryland was selected in the fourth round of the 2023 draft by the New England Patriots. In his rookie season, he made 16 of 25 (64%) field goals and 24 of 25 (96%) extra points. He was released by the Patriots after final cuts in August. He made his only field goal and all four extra points in the preseason.
Harvisik made 15 of 20 (75%) field goals and 19 of 22 (86.4%) extra points in nine games with the Los Angeles Rams last season. He was released by the Cleveland Browns after final cuts. He made his lone field goal attempt in the preseason and made all three extra points.
Each of them could be signed to the practice squad if the Packers want to add competition without making immediate changes.
