Detroit Lions receiver Jameson Williams accepted a two-match suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substance policy on Thursday, which means the speedy quarterback will miss upcoming games against the Tennessee Titans and Green Bay Packers in the next two weeks.
Williams’ absence in Week 9 will make defending the Lions’ explosive offense a little easier for Jeff Hafley and the Packers.
Williams, a 2022 first-round draft pick, is second on the Lions offense in receiving yards (361) and touchdowns (3). He averaged 21.2 yards per catch and 12.0 yards per target. Williams is also a threat as a runner. In his three-year NFL career, he scored eight times for 101 yards and one touchdown.
Williams has three catches of at least 40 yards in 2024, which ranks third among all players. He ranks second in the NFL in yards per catch.
Williams only appeared in two games against the Packers. He played 15 snaps but didn’t catch a pass in the Lions’ 20-16 victory over the Packers in 2022, and also caught two passes for 51 yards while playing 53 snaps in the Packers’ 29-22 victory on Thanksgiving last season.
The loss of Williams doesn’t mean the Lions will be without weapons next Sunday at Lambeau Field. Running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and quarterback Sam LaPorta equip quarterback Jared Goff and quarterback Ben Johnson with plenty of high-end weapons.
