MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking public comment on an update to the state’s elk management plan between now and April 20, 2024.
Updates to 2024-2034 Moose management plan include changes based on recommendations from the Natural Resources Board, the Wisconsin Elk Advisory Committee, and feedback from private landowners in elk management zones.
The public is encouraged to review the proposed plan and share their thoughts via the online commenting tool. In preparing the final plan, the DNR will review and consider comments submitted during the comment period.
Once finalized later this year, the proposed plan will be presented to the Natural Resources Board for approval.

The DNR will hold an open house regarding the elk management plan
The DNR will host an open house regarding the proposed management plan so that the public can learn about the direction of elk management and changes made since the last period of public involvement. Participants can ask DNR staff questions about updating plans.
An open day will be held at each of them moose management zone. The central Wisconsin open house will be held on Wednesday, April 3, and the northern Wisconsin open house will be held on Thursday, April 4. A virtual open house will also be held on Wednesday, April 10 for those who are unable to attend in-person sessions.
