Where can I find the best hikes in Wisconsin?

There aren’t many hiking trails where you can explore an abandoned ski resort, but these three hikes in Wisconsin also have some huge surprises!

  • Witch’s Gulch is part of the Wisconsin Natural Area, better known as the Dells, one of the most popular hiking areas in the state. This is where you’ll find Wisconsin’s best canyon hiking, a gorgeous slot canyon accessible by boat. It is home to one of the best natural beaches in Wisconsin, and boat tours allow users to disembark at specific locations and explore. This journey includes a two-mile loop through a stunning hardwood forest and provides an up-close look at millions of years of evolution.
  • The Lion’s Den Nature Reserve is located in Grafton and offers some of the most stunning views in the state. It is a 73-acre park that includes forests, lakeside bluffs and wetlands, making it a fascinating ecological gem. The most popular way to explore the area is on the Lion’s Den Trail, and this three-mile loop has basic terrain, making it suitable for all ages. It’s even dog-friendly, as long as Fido is on a leash.
  • Kohler-Andrae State Park is a popular park located south of Sheboygan and is a composite set of two state parks that have been connected and managed together. It also has arguably the best beach in Wisconsin, with a stunning boardwalk. The area was never developed because it was too sandy, and now visitors have the benefit of turning it into a unique piece of the tropics.
